Optical RF system
光纤射频系统
OpTix, an exclusive optical RF technology, enables up to 32 channels of data reception that maximize signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), system stability, and acquisition speed while providing a platform for advanced clinical research and development. By minimizing electrical noise along the imaging chain, OpTix improves overall image quality for your facility and, most importantly, for your patients. The RF technology of the Silent MR 3.0T system integrates the three major components of the information pipeline: (1) Transmit, (2) Receive and (3) Processing. This close integration enables excellent clinical performance and image quality, especially for data-intensive applications. The RF transmit architecture technology consists of a liquidcooled 35kW solid-state RF power amplifier combined with an integrated, bandpass, 16-rung quadrature body coil designed to improve RF and signal homogeneity at 3.0T. At 3.0T, staying within FDA- and IEEC-mandated guidelines for Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) can potentially limit the ability to scan efficiently. Leveraging over a dozen years’ 3.0T experience, GE has overcome these limitations on the Silent MR with an exclusive new synergistic SAR management system called PERFORM 2.0. Combining RF body coil design, optimized pulse sequences, detailed predictive SAR modeling during prescription, and real-time SAR feedback and correction during scanning helps ensure high system performance across all applications, tailored for each patient. The results include fast exams, productivity, patient comfort and improved diagnostic results, scan after scan, patient after patient.

Silent MR In-room operator console (iROC) simplify exam preparation and reduce the time between patients with the Silent MR 3.0T optional high resolution, color in-room operator console. By consolidating all controls into one place, the iROC provides real-time feedback to the user to help ensure that any necessary changes in patient setup are quickly and clearly related back to the user. The iROC also enables the user to visualize cardiac and respiratory waveforms directly in the exam room – eliminating the need for the technologist to leave the room and improving the patient experience. Mounted on the front of the magnet, the display provides real-time interaction with the scanner and the host computer. The user has direct control or selection of the following:

As MR applications continue to evolve, higher performance levels are required of the MR gradient subsystem. Advanced applications such as in/out of phase breath-held abdominal examinations at 3.0T and spectroscopy rely heavily on the MR gradients to produce consistent and reliable high quality data. Equally important is the ability of the gradient to manage thermal challenges, gradient induced noise and peripheral nerve stimulation limits (dB/dt). At the heart of the Silent MR system is a newly designed whole-body gradient coil – the eXtreme Gradient Module(XRM) – and high-power amplifier – the eXtreme Gradient Driver (XGD). Together, the XRM/XGD deliver a 44mT/m gradient field on each axis (X, Y, & Z) simultaneously to maximize gradient amplitude and slew rate at of 200 T/m/s, yielding a zero to full-scale rise time of 220μ.

This also minimizes coil inductance to provide the proper current density for peak performance level. The result is a gradient subsystem that serves today’s demanding clinical applications while providing an uncompromised platform for the development of future applications. To accommodate for the variation in AC/DC resistance, the Silent MR’s XRM gradient coil utilizes a unique water-cooled thermal-electrical cooling circuit that is five times more efficient for extracting heat from the system. Similarly, the Silent MR’s XGD driver incorporates digitally controlled feedback, switching-optimized power generation devices and direct-cold plate heat transfer technology to manage the thermal load within the amplifier.

As a consequence, the thermal management approach maximizes system performance by 60 percent and improves subsystem reliability by a factor of 10.Enhanced gradient performance does not translate into increased acoustic noise on the Silent MR. The system architecture is designed to minimize the mechanical interactions within the magnet that generate acoustic noise. Improved gradient subsystem linearity can impact the rate at which the magnetic field is switched (dB/dt) due to peripheral nerve stimulation limits. To address this issue, the SILENT MR incorporates an automated gradient pulse sequence optimization algorithm that minimizes the number of overlapping gradient ramps. This approach enables a slew-rate that stays within peripheral nerve stimulation limits to achieve shorter TEs and TRs. Overall, the SILENT MR’s gradient efficacy is achieved by a design that takes the gradient coil and driver into account as a single subsystem to deliver the performance researchers desire.

The Silent MR meets that challenge head-on with innovations in reconstruction to take full advantage of computing power by leveraging both software and hardware technology.The Silent MR 3.0T features a powerful volume reconstruction engine (VRE 2.0) that enables real-time image generation, even when massive parallel-imaging datasets are involved. The reconstruction engine features onboard memory and local raw data storage to support and maintain simultaneous data acquisition and reconstruction under the most demanding applications. VRE 2.0 uses 64-bit computing, delivering larger acquisition memory and faster performance. Parallel processing and dedicated network cards provide scalable memory and throughput. The acquisition-to-disk feature automatically expands the memory capacity per the demands of the application.
